What's New in Version 4.5? (December 2008)

Please note:
Dimdim v5 has been released.  Please see What's New in Version 5 or our video tour page for more information.

SynchroLive Communication Platform
The SynchroLive Communication Platform is Dimdim’s robust private network providing superior performance, security, and always-on reliability.  This ensures that whenever you share your desktop, webcam, PowerPoint, whiteboard or web page Dimdim automatically scales its performance to make sure every live communication is always synchronized.

SynchroLive Web Browsing
Enter the URL of a webpage inside a Dimdim room and SynchroLive takes care of the rest - as you scroll on your computer, your guest will see what you see and their view will scroll as you scroll.  Visit a YouTube page, for instance, and the video will start playing on everyone’s desktop - all in sync.

Better Recording and Archiving
Any Dimdim session can be recorded and made available with the click of the mouse - now both presenter and attendee audio is recorded.

Improved Meeting Tools
Now meeting hosts can use a laser pointer to highlight their presentations or whiteboards, zoom in and out of documents and whiteboards, lock attendees from making edits to shared resources, and turn on attendee webcams and microphones instantly as they join the conference room.  Hosts can now easily rejoin meetings even if their web connection is momentarily lost without fear of losing the audience.

Powerful Integrations
Dimdim is now tightly integrated with Zimbra’s leading open source email system as a free zimlet, with Moodle CMS, with the leading open source CRM system SugarCRM, and with the Claroline collaborative learning environment.  A powerful open API is available to extend Dimdim even further.

User Interface Improved by Users
Based on feedback of actual users we made Dimdim even easier to use.  A single click is all it takes to share your desktop, your whiteboard, web pages or your presentations.

What was new in Dimdim 4.0 (August 2008)

Mac Screensharing
Mac users can share their desktop with other Mac (and even Windows) users - even if they aren’t using Dimdim.  With Mac live screencasting you can share your desktop with anyone (it’s like iChat within a browser.)

Multiple Presenters
With a single click you can let any attendee share their desktop, whiteboard, webcam or documents. You can always grab back control of the meeting with another click.

Private Meetings
Simply assign a meeting key and only those who know both your meeting room name AND your meeting key will be able to join.  You can also turn on the lobby feature and grant admission to attendees individually.

Free Conference Calls
While we’ve improved our free VoIP microphone sharing, many users asked for a conference dial-in so more people can use their traditional phones.  Now every user gets their own unlimited free conference call account.

Single click to Start or Join Meeting
Start or join a meeting in seconds with a single click. All you need is the meeting room name.

Zero Install
You don’t have to install any software even to host a meeting, share your webcam, whiteboards or PPTs. The first time you choose to share your desktop you’ll be prompted to install our live screencasting software.  It’s a tiny 1.8MB install and comes with an uninstaller if you ever want to remove it.

Easier to Use
A single click is all it takes to share your desktop, your whiteboard, or your PowerPoint presentation.  Click to share.  Click again to stop.  The item being shared is clearly indicated with an eye icon and darker background.

New Menu System
Click on any participant’s name and a context-sensitive menu pops up.  Click to on someone else’s name to private chat with them.  Click on your own name to set your display name, change your mood indicator, provide feedback - even invite others to the live meeting.  Meeting hosts use this new menu system to make any attendee a presenter - or kick unruly guests out.

Meeting Rejoin
If you lose your connection to a meeting for some reason, simply click to rejoin the meeting.  Even if you are hosting the meeting you’ll be able to rejoin without fear of the meeting closing on all the other attendees.

Raise Hand for Question
A new mood indicator - “Question” quickly conveys to the meeting host that you have a question.

Hide Participants List
Meeting hosts who do not want to allow the other guest to see each other can now hide the participant list - great for sales meetings where the host needs to keep those names to themselves (or making a webinar seem a lot bigger!)

EZ-Copy URL
Click anywhere you see the meeting URL to quickly copy it to the clipboard.  Now just paste that into an IM and your buddies can join the meeting with a single click.

Notifications
When you have a task to perform (like admitting newly arriving guests in the Lobby) you’ll see a blinking Notification panel.

Streamlined UI
Based on user feedback, we’ve removed confusing tabs, popups, dialog boxes and links.  Now Dimdim is not only faster and more powerful - it’s actually even easier to use.
