What is the Dimdim Plugin?

The Dimdim Plugin (previously called the Dimdim Publisher) is a software running on the presenter machine which enables desktop screen sharing. It is available for Internet Explorer & for Firefox for Windows only.

Notes

The Plugin captures images of the screen and transmits it to the attendees. Along with the Plugin, a Mirror Driver is also installed on the presenter's machine which facilitates the capture of the presenter screen. The presenter needs to be an Administrator of the Windows machine in order to install the Mirror Driver.

The Plugin can be used in Low Settings which display low color, Medium which displays high color with a phantom mouse cursor and High which displays high color with real Mouse cursor.
In case the Mirror Driver is not installed, the Presenter can share the desktop only in a Low Setting (using 8-bit)

Currently the Plugin is available only for Windows IE and Windows Firefox.

I'm a Mac user and did not even know about the Dimdim plugin until after I hosted a meeting. It does not seem to be required for hosting? I did need to download and install a small app called Screencaster_4. Is this Dimdim plugin an old item?
