Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to utilize DimDim as my webinar solution.
I'm a REALLY nerdy techie -- DimDim really needs to cater to us, because of the same scenario I'm in: I'm presenting a new website and backoffice platform to a client, and being a designer/programmer/etc. I don't have the standard monitor setup of most folks.
I have a quad monitor setup -- the primary monitor being a 22" LCD widescreen at 1680 x 1050 res, to the right I have a 19" LCD at 1280 x 1024, the FAR right I have a 19" CRT at 1024 x 768 (res varies - I use this for testing quality when comparing CRT and LCD screen appearances), and on the left there is another 19" LCD at 1280 x 1024 res.
Just like a novice user -- you're not going to convince me to bend over backwards. I'm not about to disable 1-2 monitors just to run the 3rd party Desktop Sharing application.
WebEx has no problems with this -- it still only displays the primary screen (no problem with this -- I "hide" various windows/apps in the other monitors during meetings anyway.)
Even still -- I hate that some plugins think the 0, 0 X/Y axes reside at the top-left of the entire desktop...this is ridiculous -- they should be prepared for even an 8 monitor setup. Sadly, the developers of these applications just aren't accustomed to the incredible amount of real-estate involved in a 3+ monitor environment.
So, DimDim -- everything looks great simply because the interface is web-based, and utilizing Flash galore (not to mention there are no 3rd party plugins for attendees) but the TECHNICAL side of DimDim seems pretty sluggish: features disabled or not available in various places. In my opinion, DimDim is NOT WebEx 2.0 -- WebEx still caters to the technically savvy (thank you, Cisco!) wheras DimDim does not. DimDim is merely a simplified version of WebEx; the ever-changing variables involved are considered in the WebEx architecture, whereas DimDim feels more like a user-friendly Mac with too many restrictions.
I think DimDim is on it's way, but they'll have to develop their own desktop-capturing plugin (or collaborate more with the original authors), as well as add more features to the setup....but overall, it's a great service for simplified users (just can't beat FREE working service!)
Best of luck, DimDim -- let me know when you support the glory of the tri/quad+ monitor junkies! ;)
